Our Kindergarten program is designed to teach students core competencies in reading and language, mathematics, arts, social studies, physical activity, and social/emotional development. This will build the foundation for the rest of their grade school years and beyond. Students will have the opportunity to work individually, in pairs, and in small groups as they grow and learn together. Children do not need to know Spanish to join Rayito de Sol’s Kindergarten program.

Kindergarten students learn best by active, hands-on exploration, testing, and discovery. Through their senses, they are ready to expand their world beyond their homes and classrooms to the larger neighborhood or community. These experiences help them grow socially and intellectually. Each lesson plan concludes with a hands-on arts and crafts project. These projects are designed to reinforce and remind students of all they learned in that particular lesson plan.

Occasionally throughout the year, we will replace the arts and crafts project with a culturally-relevant special event. By participating in these activities, children come to appreciate similarities and differences between American and Hispanic cultures.
